This is the header for the Journal shelf, one half of the Journal & Magazine page — the half that carries study and scholarship rather than features or stories.

What belongs here is reviews, study notes and long-form writing that takes a subject seriously enough to name its sources. A journal piece is the kind of writing that could be checked against the book, the paper, or the edition it draws from — not a summary offered on trust, but one a reader could verify for themselves if they wanted to. That’s what separates it from the Magazine shelf next door, which carries features, profiles and campus stories instead.

This shelf is written by students, teachers and practitioners across the community, not by a fixed editorial staff — which is also why it currently holds nothing: the first journal pieces are in preparation, and they’ll appear here, newest first, as they’re published. If you have study notes, a review, or a piece of scholarship worth sharing with the wider community, sending it in is straightforward.

A journal piece worth publishing usually has a shape you can recognise before you even reach the sources at the bottom: it takes one subject, or one part of one subject, and goes deeper into it than a general explainer would — the kind of writing a First Professional student or a working practitioner would actually want to sit down and read carefully, rather than skim. It doesn’t need to be exhaustive to belong here, but it does need to be honest about what it’s drawing from, the same standard the platform holds for a practitioner’s registration or a college’s affiliation.
