Publishing with us: from idea to the journal page

You have an idea. Maybe it is study notes you are proud of. Maybe a review of a book, a story from your college, or a profile of a teacher who shaped you. You want other people to read it.
Homoeopaths.org is written by its community: students, teachers and practitioners. This piece walks you through the whole path, from the idea in your head to a page with your name on it. No mystery, no insider tricks.
Step 1: Pick the right kind of piece
Our Publish and Media section has two main shelves for community writing.
The Journal is for study and scholarship. Reviews, study notes and long-form writing that name their sources. A journal piece should be something a reader could check against the book, paper or edition it draws from.
The Magazine is for stories. Features, profiles and campus stories. Still honest and first-hand, just more personal in shape.
Ask yourself one question: am I explaining something that can be checked, or telling a story? That tells you which shelf you are aiming for.
Step 2: Write it first-hand
We publish writing by people who were there or who studied the subject directly. Not a summary of someone else’s summary. If you are writing study notes, write them from the books you actually read.
Name your sources. Which book, which edition, which paper. A reader should be able to follow your trail.
Write in plain English. Short sentences. Everyday words. If you use a technical term, explain it the first time. We hold every piece on this platform to this rule, including our own. Clear writing is not “dumbing down”. It is respect for the reader.
Step 3: Check the hard rules
Some rules are firm. A piece that breaks them will not run, however good the writing.
- No cure promises. No piece claims that anything cures, treats or prevents a condition.
- No medicine paired with an illness. We do not publish “this medicine for that problem” in any form.
- No patient testimonials. Not even kind ones, and not in any disguise.
- No promotion. A piece about a practitioner is a story, not an advert. If it could pass as a clinic’s promotion with the names swapped in, it does not run.
- No superlatives. No “best”, “top” or “number one”.
These rules protect readers. They also protect you, because your name will be on the piece.
Step 4: Send it in
This part is simple. Email your draft to info@homoeopaths.org. A Google Doc, a Word file or plain text is fine. Add two lines about yourself: who you are and where you study or work.
Step 5: The review
Your draft is read against the rules above before anything is published. This is the same idea as checking a practitioner’s registration before their listing goes live.
The review is not there to block good writing. It is there so that everything carrying the Homoeopaths.org name meets the same standard: honest, sourced where it needs to be, and never a promotion dressed up as a story.
Our own checklist is strict. A piece that fails any line is held back and fixed properly. It is never patched after it goes live. So if your piece takes a little longer, that is usually why.
Step 6: It gets a home
Once it passes, the piece is entered into our publishing system. Every piece on this site gets one permanent address, called its home. It also gets a short summary line, called an excerpt, which shows on every card that links to it. And it carries its author’s real name and the date it went up.
Your piece is also tagged “published with us”. That means it is listed on the Publish With Us page, alongside other community pieces. A Journal piece will also appear on the Journal shelf. A Magazine piece will appear on the Magazine shelf.
If your piece is study material for a particular BHMS year, it can also appear in the right year’s subject room in Learn. Write once, and it shows up everywhere it belongs.
A few honest expectations
- Not every draft will be published. If yours is not, it is not personal. Often it is a matter of sources or fit.
- Your piece may come back with questions. Answering them is part of the process.
- Keep a copy of your own draft. It is your work.
